The Eureka A4:

The Eureka, weighing only 3 - 1/2 pounds, is the first truly portable
computer designed for blind people. Including its built-in 3.5" disk drive,
it measures approximately 8 - 1/2 by 11 inches - the size of a standard
piece of paper. You input text via Eureka's Braille keyboard and output via
the speech synthesizer or a serial printer or Braille embosser.

Eureka is not an adapted computer; designed from scratch with the help of
blind people in several countries, this system is as friendly as it is
powerful, and can be as simple or as sophisticated as the user wants.

Eureka's 16 built-in functions include: word processor, notetaker, database,
clock and calendar, appointment diary, telephone directory, disk utilities
and even a music composer!

Professional people find Eureka indispensable for keeping records of their
work or their business; Eureka safely stores invoices, client notes, reports
and appointments, for retrieval at any time. With an MS-DOS system, you can
use Eureka as a speech synthesizer as well as transferring files from one
computer to the other.

Students of all ages find Eureka gives them a lot more autonomy, because
they no longer have to rely on others to type or transcribe their work for
them. Eureka's ability to transfer files to other systems means that
students have access to handouts at the same time as their sighted
colleagues.

Eureka also has a powerful communications package built in, giving the user
access to online databases and bulletin boards via modem. Computer buffs
have a great time programming in BASIC, as well as other languages, and
keeping in touch with other computer users via the phone lines.
